Letter to Richard - 28 October 2013

Dear Richard

The week last week was thankfully a bit quieter than the last while J It was filled with preparations for the exam today by me, and the students. So I answered tons of emails and had lots of students in my office… But they finally all wrote today, so now the marking starts… But they seemed to say that the paper was fair, and I had one girl especially thanking me for a great year J I really have enjoyed this course, and I’m excited to make a few changes next year, which I think will make it even more awesome!

Andrew wrote an exam on Wednesday, and I must say I’m glad it’s over! Andrew’s not sure how the exam went, though – we’ll have to wait for the result… But the one day he was studying at home we fetched the kids together and went to the park as a family, which the kids just Loved! With the weather warming up we’ve been able to be outdoors quite a bit, although it is the windy season right now, and it certainly has been Blowing some days!

So much admin last week though around buying the new car… Arranging all the finance, but we finally got it all signed off. We’re very low risk, because we have so little debt, so we got fantastic interest rates and terms on the finance. And today Andrew got the new car! Pretty exciting J

My prayers for missionary experiences were answered again last week J I managed to talk to one of the coaches at the gym about church a bit, and the next day I gave her one of the Plan of Salvation pamphlets the missionaries give out, with a couple pass along cards, and I invited her to come to church J And today, and Andrew also got to speak to the guy who sold us the car about church a bit too, and he’s going to send him some stuff. The dealership normally gives you a bottle of champagne or something with the new car to celebrate, but the salesman actually predicted Andrew’s answer that we don’t drink – said there was something about him… And they got to talking about the church a bit. So we’re both getting into it now J (Lots of smiley faces here, but it feels great!)

We had 2 brothers come over to play with Josh and Hannah on Friday, which was an interesting experience as always. But it is just amazing to see how Josh has grown up this year! He is so confident with someone else in his space now, and he really has fun J And to show how grown up he’s getting he gave his first talk in Primary yesterday! I was SO proud of him! He spoke softly of course, but he said everything (except for the very last line – but I think it was all just a bit much by then… He did still end it off properly though) and he was actually excited in the build up to it. I was a very proud mommy J And the talk was on how he can be a missionary, and what missionaries do, and of course he mentioned that “Uncle Richard is on mission. He’s my uncle.” That was a very important classification ;)

On Saturday we went to Fish Hoek for a special breakfast (a HUGE breakfast!) to properly celebrate Andrew’s parents 50th anniversary. Wayne and Louise were down, so almost the whole family was there, and it was so nice visiting all together J I really hope that you’ll have as good a relationship with your family-in-law as I do J

So the week ahead has the happy prospect of marking for me… But at least there won’t be any more student queries J

Love you lots

Shelly
