The post script to the cot bumper is that we have been having much better nights since we put in the cot bumper. Joshua stirs a couple times and wants his dummy, but he isn't waking up fully, and he's stopped thinking that 4:00 is time to wake up for the day.
So all in all we're a much happier family now!
