New Year's

On New Year's Eve my family came over and had a braai with us (including Colleen and Rohan). It was meant to be that we'd eat at a normal supper time, then they'd go home, and Andrew and I would go to bed, due to the fact that Joshua wakes up every morning at about 6:00, and so we need our sleep...

Well, as they say, the best laid plans of mice and men... We got the fire started late because my dad, Andrew and I were busy tiling (more about that in a later post), and then none of us had coal, so we had to resort to the old fashioned methods of small twigs building up to logs... So it came to 10:30 and we were still sitting around the fire waiting for the food to finish cooking...

Then they decided to start watching a movie while we ate, and then they'd take it over the road to finish watching later. We were braaing on our side because Joshua was already in bed, so that meant we wouldn't have to move him or anything. Well, this movie ended up being a bit loud, and Joshua woke up... And then woke up again, at which point I suggested that they all rather go over the road - but too late! By that time Joshua was wide awake... Well, it ended up that he only went back to sleep just before 12:00, so Andrew and I ended up seeing the New Year in anyway. Apart from the sleep deprivation it was a really nice evening, with good company and good food.

Then for New Year's Day, we had another braai, this time with most of Andrew's family, and most of mine came again too. Quite a big group, but our house is getting a bit better equipped to deal with bigger groups. And thanks to some outdoor chairs borrowed from my parents we were able to all spend most of the day outside. And we did have gorgeous weather!

We all made good use of the nice weather to enjoy the pool, and once again good food and good company.
For those who haven't had personal dealings yet with Joshua, if you look closely you'll see the streams of drool coming down his chin... This is his almost permanent state - and has been for about 7 months now! (Joshua turned 9 months yesterday. Happy birthday to him!)

I love this time of year because we get to spend some time just relaxing and enjoying our families. I hope that you all enjoyed the same!
