Caleb moments - August 2013 (17 - 18 months)

Stressful moment! We came into Josh's room and found that Caleb had climbed onto the top bunk all on his own! Before that he had often climbed up the first two rungs before going head first through the next gap onto Hannah's bed.

Caleb definitely has very strong opinions. Like he has a favourite shirt, with farm animals. I don't remember that so early with the others..

He has all sorts of words that he says often, and he'll often say phrases in his garbled way. Words we hear often are ball, bear, bird, duck and then he'll usually try and kiss it like in one of his books, dog and then usually woof, book, no (which is the word he says most clearly), dark.

He loves trying to do whatever Josh and Hannah do. One thing he does is making a dinosaur walk along and roaring as he goes. Sometimes he crawls all over the floor with the dinosaur, and occasionally other animals, but usually a dinosaur!

Hannah was crying for some reason, so he was hugging and patting her and then he went to fetch Andrew as well to see if that would make her feel better. And now if any of us is upset he'll come and give us a big hug. Such a compassionate child!

I hurt my leg quite badly and while I was then sitting on the floor Caleb came and gave me a big hug, and it wasn't just a quick hug, he stayed with me for quite a while. So sweet!

Caleb just loves music! If some comes on he'll be transfixed and will start swaying or tapping his foot or clapping.

Caleb just really wants to grow up quickly! When we're at the park he wants to be going on the big slide. I've finally let him go up without me, as long as Josh is at the top to help him. And now he has also started asking for a movie while he drinks his milk in the morning. He has such strong opinions about what he should be doing!

A few times when I've been at the school he's said “Dane” a few times like when he's been holding something out to Dane.

He was so soft and gentle when he was touching Jesse on the head. I was amazed!

Caleb is such a climber it's scary! He now also climbs into his cot, either by standing on his bin or even a car and then launching himself head first in. Very scary!

He likes saying “shh” with his finger over his mouth when he's listening to the wheels on the bus or during sacrament meeting. But his finger ends up more on his nose and his folded fingers over his mouth. But he always gets a big grin when he's trying!

He came into the other kids room and said “Nana room”. One of his first sentences.

Caleb likes wearing shoes. He will often stop what he's doing and go get his shoes for you to put on. And he's very good about choosing and bringing a pair of shoes correctly!

He's started telling us when his nappy needs to be changed by saying “Pooh”. The first step to potty training! Not that long till we'll be out of nappies after continuous nappies since Josh was born. Wow!

He watches Hannah putting lipstick on with her finger sometimes and he thinks candles are like lipstick. So he'll touch a candle and then gently touch your lips.

On Saturday mornings Andrew lets me sleep in a bit while he looks after the kids, but Caleb often decides before I'm awake properly that he wants me awake now. So I pretend to be asleep, but he comes calling “Mama mama”, and he gently touches my face and my hair. So sweet!

Caleb winked at me! He managed to push up his cheek more than closing his eye. But so cute :-)

He's started saying 2 word sentences. “Come mama” (looking back over his shoulder to call me), “Nanas room” and “Bye bye dada”.

Scrunching up his eyes and saying "cheese" for the camera
He thinks he's a big boy who can climb out of the bath!
I took him with to one of Joshua's friends' parties, and he had a ball!
We've had a few tantrums where he's been lying on the floor crying...

He just loves to have stories read to him!

He's grown so much to be able to see himself in our mirror now! But such a happy boy, almost always!
Thinking he can ride Joshua's bike...
"Hmm, yummy sandwich! And look, I'm big enough to sit in Joshua's car seat!"
