Joshua moments - January 2011

January saw Joshua starting at his new school. It took a while for him to settle, but he quickly came to love it. And even if the mornings were a bit difficult, every afternoon I would arrive to find him having a ball playing with the other kids.

Some of the other things that he got up to:

He decided that he quite liked to eat plain bread, but it was "squashy bread".

We were talking about my uncle, Mark, and telling him that he is his great uncle. Well in Joshua's mind he became "grape uncle Mark".

He quite liked the idea of Uncle Andrew's helmet. I was surprised because in the past he didn't want to know about wearing a helmet. But if your cool Uncle Andrew wears one...

One day he was sitting, and he started poking and squashing his knee, and he decided that it looked more like a bum (?!)

He decided he wanted a tail (like Darby in My Friends, Tigger and Pooh), so Daddy tied on of my scarfs around his tummy. It became a regular!

We were eating strawberry yoghurt one day, and he says, "I can see pink in your tummy."

He is now recognising the numbers 3, 4, 5, 8 and 0. And he can point at objects and count up to 10.

We were in the car on a bright day, and he stepped on the seat, making the dust rise, and he says, "Josh made a mess", "Where?", "Up in the air".

He gets confused with personal pronouns still, but its cute... If he and Hannah are jumping he'll say, "Me, Hannah, Josh jump". We hear that phrase a lot!

I asked him what he wanted to eat and he said, "Bread and jam then close it". Pretty good description of a sandwich, as opposed to toast!

He picked up a toy that he'd hardly played with at all, which he had got with a Happy Meal at McDonald's during the world cup. And completely on his own he told us that he'd got it at "Chicken and Chips" which is his name for McDonalds. 6 months later! That's an impressive long term memory!

Wearing Uncle Richard's goggles for swimming

He decided that he should get to sit in the Bishop's chair!

After going to the temple last year, Josh will now call all sorts of big buildings temples.

Trying to eat his toes...?

We finally got to making the sand pit for the kids that we'd been planning for ages. We used the old pond that had been in our garden. It was quite a hit!

Before we did the sandpit the kids had to play in the normal sand. And try to keep Josh out of the sand... Not going to happen!
